Serviced Apartments in Bristol – Old vs New

When choosing a place to stay when either away from home on business or pleasure, it’s important to feel relaxed. First impressions count and everyone is different.

Do you like the old rustic look with character, and dark colours throughout so you feel you can collapse on the sofa after a busy day?

Or do you like young vibrant colours with mod cons such as kitchens that light up when you come in, and touch sensored lights?

At Merchants Rest and Pritchard Place we offer both contrasting styles, Pritchard Place with the new look, and Merchants Rest with the old look.

Both are fully furnished to a high standard and are perfectly located in central Bristol just a few minutes walk from Cabot Circus.

How can Serviced Apartments help businesses?

Firstly what are serviced apartments? They are fully furnished apartments with everything someone would need when staying away from home. Close to the city centre, your own front door key, and you just pay per room.
Facilities including all cutlery, washing machine, dishwasher, iron, t.v, and best of all space, and lots of it.

Some businesses may have workers who come down to the city and require accommodation. Others often hold events or conferences with delegates traveeling from all over the country, oftern the world. It can be a case of finding the best deal at that time through a PA, or at worst left to the worker to source own accommodation.

How serviced apartments can help is simple. The delegate or worker gets there own apartment with there own space and freedom and close enough to all businesses and entertainment to ensure there stay is convenient. When they go back the can tell other colleagues exactly where accommodation is and what standards are like so when different workers stay at different times of the year they know exactly what to expect.

From the businesses point of view they are looking after there workers or delegates by providing them with there own apartment as opposed to a hotel room. Secondly all the hassle and time is taken away from searching for the best deal. They have agreed rate and get the same standard each and everytime. And dealing with an account manager ensures they get any answers they need, and build an ongoing relationship that suits all.

Bristol Kite Festival

Bristol International Kite Festival will be living up to its name in 2010 as it welcomes flyers from the USA, New Zealand and the Caribbean. The festival, on 4 and 5 September, is celebrating its 25th year and will also be marking 100 years of flight and the Bristol Aeroplane Company. Day two of the event takes place on the same date as the Bristol Half-marathon. Organisers of the race are hoping participants will head for Ashton Court to watch the kites after running. Among the highlights they will be able to see are sea-themed kites including giant octopi and squids, scuba divers and mermaids. Flying menagerie Animal kites visiting from New Zealand will be in the shape of bears, tigers, dogs and cats. There will be routines choreographed to music, man-lifting kite surfing and buggying and Japanese kites in aerial combat. Marking the 100 years of flight will be a pageant depicting how kites have developed in the same 10 decades. There will be hands-on activities too, including kite-making workshops for children. Last year the kite festival was without a sponsor and had to rely on public donations in order to go ahead. 2010′s festival runs from 12pm to 5.30pm on Saturday, 4 and Sunday, 5 September 2010. Entry is free and the Clifton Suspension Bridge will be fully open during the weekend.

Twestival record-breaker goes down a tweet

Bristol’s Twitter community has raised more than £5,500 for an international charity fighting poverty in some of the world’s poorest areas. More than 200 people packed out the Tunnels, two converted railway arches under Bristol Temple Meads station, on Thursday for Bristol Twestival. Bristol Twestival: ‘Obliterated’ its fundraising target The city was one of 175 around the world which organised events to raise money for education projects run by Concern Worldwide. The Bristol party, sponsored by digital publishing company Sift, raised £5,617, well over the £3,000 target set by organisers and more than three times the amount collected at the event in 2009. Revellers at the venue donated for free by its owner – former England rugby international Gareth Chilcott – were entertained by local bands Phantom Limb and The Reacharounds, and donated generously to a charity raffle with a Sony PlayStation 3 the most sought-after prize. An auction also took place with an England shirt signed by football star David Beckham netting £400. Dan Martin, editor of BusinessZone.co.uk and lead organiser of the Bristol Twestival, they had “obliterated” their funding target. “The generosity of those who came to our event was beyond our wildest dreams and we thank them all,” he said. “If anyone believes that social media cannot be used for social good, Twestival proves them well and truly wrong.” More than 6,500 people attended Twestival events worldwide and raised more than £200,000. In the UK, in excess of £35,000 was collected – enough to build three schools.

Myristica Indian restaurant moves to new waterfront premises

Myristica is moving into the hub of Bristol’s harbourside dining scene to serve up its award-winning Indian fine dining in new premises on Bristol’s Welsh Back. Taking the place of what was once Bibas Lounge Bar and Restaurant, the new site is closer to the water and benefits from increased footfall from tourists and local people who come to the harbourside to dine. Owner Amit Lakhani said: “This is a centre of food excellence with Severnshed, riverstation and Aqua well established, and now Myristica bringing something new to the mix. We were a bit tucked away in King Street and this site will give us much more exposure.” It was always Amit’s dream to bring the five star Indian experience to Bristol and, together with chefs recruited from some of Indian’s top hotels, the restaurant has earned many accolades – including being named ‘Best in Bristol’ by the Evening Post. Despite losing the open plan kitchen feature at the new site, Amit is confident that Myristica will thrive on Welsh Back and it will be a great platform for growth of the business into a second site in Clifton in the near future. Myristica is expected to re-open mid March and it’s cookery school will re-commence on April 10.

Serviced apartments – The ideal alternative to hotels?

Picture the scene.
You are away on business and have been put up by your company in a nice 4 star hotel. You work a busy 9 – 5 day then get back to your room, shower, then eat a £14.95 meal from the restaurant on your own.

With serviced apartments you can have your own apartment not room, with office space to do some work if you wish, or put your feet up in own living room quarters watching a dvd or watching t.v. Not feeling that hungry??? Then simply have order of groceries from Tesco and have sandwich.

Located perfectly off M32, Merchants Rest and Pritchard Place are one junction from Aztec West, close to MOD, Hewlett Packard, and a host of big companies that operate in Bristol.

Serviced apartments – the accommodation solution for corporate events, venues with no accommodation, giving you your own private space when away from home.

Jamie Oliver to open new restaurant in Bristol

Celebrity chef Jamie Oliver has been given approval to open a new restaurant in Bristol.

Bristol City Council has given the go-ahead for the new eatery, which will be one of the cook’s Jamie’s Italian outlets.
There are currently eight Jamie’s Italian eateries across the UK.
The new restaurant will be located at 89 Park Street in Clifton in a distinctive listed Georgian building.

Subject to planning permission and a complete refurbishment, the restaurant could open in early 2011.

The refurbishment could include the incorporation of the latest customer and staff paging systems, such as CST’s WaiterCall or CustomerCall devices.
Speaking to Jack FM, Rob Dyer of FiveMews, said: “Jamie’s Italian had been looking for an interesting building of character in a prominent Bristol location and 89 Park Street proved the perfect fit.

“A Jamie’s Italian would be a major coup for Park Street and the city as a whole.”
